'bout Time

With ’Bout Time, Johnny Vidacovich adds a career-defining album to his more than 100 recordings. ’Bout Time features the master drummer from New Orleans with his Astral Project bandmate of 42 years, saxophonist Tony Dagradi; keyboardist Michael Pellera, who’s worked with Vidacovich even longer than Dagradi; and bassist Ed Wise, another jazz veteran.

Following Mystery Street, Banks Streets and Vidacovich, ’Bout Time is the fourth Johnny Vidacovich album produced by Jeffrey Meyer. A composer, drummer, pianist and former Vidacovich student, Meyer believes that his mentor and friend—who turns 71 years old on June 27—is at the peak of his percussive powers. “From the first album I produced for Johnny, I wanted him to make his mark beyond being an essential sideman to being the main course,” Meyer said. “Johnny’s sound is sharp, funky and swinging. The new recording demonstrates a range of playing that other drummers dream to emulate.”
